Game Highlights The team qualified for the USSSA World Series with a Second Place finish in the Sandwich USSSA Tournament. We started out rough on Saturday by losing our first game, but we never gave up. The team battled back to win four games in a row, ending the weekend in Second Place. In all the games I've coached, I've never seen a team work as hard and support each other like the Inferno! did this weekend. Every single player did everything possible to help the team. Alyssa was a pitching beast and Morgan was a vacuum behind the plate. Our amazing defensive plays were too numerous to record. On offense, our bats got an unbelievable workout. Following our last game, I was at a loss for words to describe the weekend's emotions. Congratulations Inferno! MVP recognition was awarded by the opposing teams to: Morgan Haick, Michelle Smith and Jennifer Lopez. Game #2 vs. Sycamore Flash on June 5 Inferno! 9 - Flash 3 Morgan pounded one to the fence and turned on the speed for an error-free in-the-park homerun. On defense, Vanessa pitched a complete game. Mikayla caught a fly ball and quickly tagged the runner at 3B for an unassisted double play. While backing up 1B, Rose caught the ball that popped out of the first baseman's mitt and easily tagged the batter/runner when she turned to advance to 2B. Game pins were awarded to Mikayla and Rose. Game #1 vs. Sycamore Flash on June 5 Inferno! 11 - Flash 9 We got off to a rough start and gave up five runs in the first inning. Jennifer backed up 1B wonderfully whenever she wasn't playing at 1B. Jenna made a sweet 5-3 play when we really needed a boost. The girls dug in and pecked away at the lead until we were tied in the fifth inning. In the 5th, Mikayla and Jordan got on and Jenna drove them home for the winning and insurance runs. Our fifth inning defense was strong and the girls held the Flash scoreless to end the game. Michelle pitched a complete game. Game pins were awarded to Jennifer and Jenna. Game vs. Naperville Diamonds - KB on June 3 Inferno! 14 - Diamonds 0 Wow! Highlights...I don't know where to begin! Libby and Mikayla both hit shots all the way to the fence and turned on the jets for in-the-park homeruns. Jenna took one to the opposite field to mirror her hit from Wednesday night. On defense, we were error-free! We tried to have an error, but Jordan backed-up her teammate and saved the play. Game pins were awarded to: Jordan, Jennifer and Vanessa! Great job! Game vs. Downers Grove Rebels - DL on June 1 Inferno! 9 - Rebels 10 Game pins were awarded to: Vanessa, Nicole and Rose! Great job! Game vs. Oswego Outlaws Tournament Team on April 17th at PHS Inferno! 8 - Outlaws 12 Results and Highlights: Well, we didn't get the W, but we played a great game on a cold and windy afternoon. We started out a little rough, but came on strong. Speaking of strong, Jordan Campbell smoked one to the fence for a stand-up triple that turned into an in-the-park home run when the ball got past the 3rd baseman. Nice wheels, Jordan! Alyssa Ohme and Michelle Smith pitched great despite the wind. Even with the weather, it was nice to get back on the softball field. Chris and his team were great. Thanks for playing such a polite, yet motivated game.
Game at Oswego Predators on October 27 at 5:30 Inferno! 18 - Predators 11 Results and Highlights: We played our first game and got our first win! The Inferno! defeated the Predators 18-11. Jewel Hupe had 6 RBIs partly because she hit her first GRAND SLAM! Way to fly around the bases, Jewel. Michelle Smith pitched lights-out during her time in the circle. Jordan Edwards did an amazing job behind the plate. And, Vanessa Struck turned on the jets to catch an uncatchable fly ball. I am certain I am forgetting other highlights, sorry. Keep up the hard work, Inferno! A big "Thanks" to the Oswego Predators for hosting the game. Their players were tough and focused, yet polite the entire game. Coach Lee has done an excellent job with a young team; good luck in the future.
